Your writing is terrific. Realizing I’ve enjoyed your voice for a while now but didn’t know it was coming from you on the other outlet.

This is excellent!

“Diddy do it” is an amazing line.

I also have compassion for anything that needs to go pee and can’t.

Honestly though, broken people don’t become broken on their own. It’s fairly easy to assume that he was a victim growing up and that’s how he was able to write off this behavior. It’s by no means an excuse because plenty of people are capable of moving on from their own trauma without inflicting it on someone else. With the life path he chose it was certainly clear that his intention wasn’t to stop the cycle but to keep it going and treat it like a popularity contest.

To add to that, his mom was ended up raising all the kids by herself. The dad was killed when Diddy was 6 months old.

So she had 3 jobs,I think is what I remember from the video series I’ve been watching.

I can’t exactly remember all the jobs she had, but it’s said that she brought men home all the time. And the kids knew what was going on.

I am a survivor of childhood SA, and I am not going to apologize for not feeling empathy for Diddy. He is not a monster, but a depraved man who preyed on children, both male and female making their lives a living hell. I have empathy for those survivors. I pray Diddy gets convicted, but he is only the tip of the iceberg of the pedos who will probably never get caught. Save the children, not the abusers.

Just bc I felt empathy for him for a fleeting moment of time doesn’t take away how I feel about the victims which is why I dedicated a portion of this article to them in hopes they will have a fair trial

Yes, they need to be heard, and seen. Too many survivors get shoved under the carpet, and the rich, protected, privileged entertainers get off scot free. I do love your Substack and articles. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as well!

What part of this particular info did you find appealing?

Expand full comment
Jennifer Mezquita's avatar

What I found appealing is the amount of information packaged neatly and succinctly in the piece. From a readers perspective, this case suits you well given your attention to details that many miss or have forgotten along with your comedic relief. No pressure😂, but that may help with the heaviness of this case.🙏🏼

I find the whole thing of him being nervous so profound, the world views things in a black and white format statements like that highlights the human in the monster. It at least highlights the human is present

Emily- I’m not a Diddy fan. I couldn’t even name one song. I don’t really care about pop culture at all. But I do care about human behavior, systematic and generational trauma and abuse and it’s affect on humans. I wish all reporters dug this deep into the motivation, the societal and familial effects on humans. I’m hooked. Really beautiful piece. I never read your work on HIH because I disagreed with her whole platform and the damage it has and continues to have on culture. You on the other hand, I believe are a force for good, and real truth.

The fact that you can crank out an article this captivating, interesting, & informational the evening of the first day when you’re exhausted & not feeling great, just shows how talented you are. No need to prove to me if Diddy is guilty or not, your day to day coverage that includes all kinds of tangential topics we weren’t expecting is all I need! So happy you chose to cover this. Have a great second day!

Here reading and watching. As someone who was sexually abused as a kid, it does mess with you and your orientation of sexual identity, but doesn’t excuse the actions and repeating the cycles of abuse. Awareness is the greatest agent of change and while I hate what Diddy endured and have empathy for him, I also am a firm believer that it is no different excuse the cycle being repeated through the continued exploitation of others in search of his own warped value system.

Great article, appreciate your honesty and your sacrifice in covering this and providing details for us.

Emilie Hagen's avatar

Awesome comment, James. I agree, the cycle needs to stop. Hurt people hurt people but if they have the resources to change it, they should try. Sometimes I wonder if some people are too far gone mentally but maybe I’m making an excuse for them

Expand full comment
James Robert Dykes's avatar

No I completely understand what you mean about wondering if they are too far gone… but honestly I do think that is just the overload of empathy that flows from an empath that has been manipulated to grace over truth. Truth and grace have to be balanced and regulated within us as we assess the situations we’re trying to understand, and the problem that exists is the lack of self awareness and avoidance of the truth by those that have been abused that repeats the cycles of abuse… it’s a both/and situation and not an either/or one!

It’s so refreshing to read something like this! Instead of the usual Diddy trial coverage with no analysis or actual thought provoking statements, your writing actually says exactly what most of us are thinking! I personally think he was a victim himself and there’s other people involved. Not saying he’s not guilty but there’s way more than meets the eye here. Can’t wait to follow along!

Another great article and I’m not surprised at the DM’s agreeing with you about feeling bad for Diddy. He deserves punishment for what he’s (allegedly) done but it’s only natural to feel pity. This is definitely going to be a “question the narrative” trial because they’re not going to find a single juror who doesn’t have some form of knowledge on it, I think it’s going to be a LONG one.

I expect zero major bombshell names coming up and Tony Buzbee certainly didn’t help matters when he filed the lawsuit against Jay-Z. Also, where’s Jaguar Wright in all this mess? I’m very on the fence with her and the award she got from the Trump Administration didn’t exactly instill much confidence in her credibility but DAMN she’s entertaining.
