I was the friend who always ended up out the latest, refused to go home when everyone else was done for the night. Ended up partying all night with the bachelor party or a DJ at Winter Music Conference in Miami. One time I did go home early we were in Vegas celebrating a 21st and everyone went to the bar to get a drink except me. I then looked around by myself and thought all my friends have left the club and forgot their purses so I scooped them all up for safety and left to go back to the hotel by myself, taking all their necessary night out belongings with me 🫠

If only there had been AirTags back then…

I feel like me, everyone i know and everyone i don't know has gone to NY to see a potential love interest and ultimately ended up couch surfing elsewhere (or sleeping in their car 🤣🤣🤣). This may be a core millennial experience/phenomenon.

Thats really nice and all but all I've been able to think about for the last 2 days is whether or not Andy got his rug. We the lucky few need closure.

Wish I had journaled more when I was living in nyc. I was given a choice by my parents: come home to Phoenix after graduation and they’d help me buy a car, or go to NYC (my plan) and good luck. I did the latter and spent eleven years working my way up in my industry. Those were really crazy years. I’ll never forget getting kicked out of line at One nightclub (circa 2001) with a Paltrow cousin who was a major DB. Her entitled behavior as she snarled at him to let us in was why the bouncer refused to let us even stay in line. Years later she’s the wife of Adam Neumann, and famous in her own right (likely for still being an entitled DB). Such is life. A lesson on “winning.” Lots of life lessons to be had in NYC.

I do have a long list of stories, but don’t assume anyone really wants to hear them (although appreciate you asking!!). I kissed a LOT of frogs. Spent way too much of my hard earned $$ thinking I was the fifth girl on SATC. Lived and was laid off and then somehow found my footing in a new job through 9/11. Made friends, one of whom took off with the guy I was seeing. Thank God.

But so many funny, unhinged and wildly surprising and enchanting experiences walking through life in nyc from 22-33. Oh and way too much alcohol! Met every type of person. And somehow those people sometimes cross paths with you again when you least expect in the most random ways now when you are much older.

Met the guy I thought was my husband. Then met the real one one night on park Avenue and the rest is history 15 years later.

Anyway, nyc was a core part of my life and I’m really excited you have a new chapter there. Can’t wait to read it along with you! x

Hehe it’s like you were writing about my experiences in my 20s…. Chaos, figuring it out when I get there, trusting strangers a little too much, & yet surviving, so on to the next adrenaline adventure. & then one day it all just stops & home is better than hangovers.

I’ve still never been to NYC, but I always would find the NYC guys visiting my city. 🤝 the best of times & the dumbest of times of my life.

I describe those guys as fun. My friends would say “run”!

Such a great read! Thanks for sharing!

If it makes you feel better I had a mania induced nervous breakdown when I lived in NYC and then got addicted to Xanax after going to Mount Sinai 5 times thinking I was having heart attacks or strokes, it was hard out there in our 20’s 😂😂 cannot wait for your coverage of the trial with Brianna, it’s going to be wild there!

I went in my 20s with one of my best friends. We were two small town girls totally unprepared for the big city. The first time we road the subway, a disheveled man boarded and started talking loudly about having HIV. We were so terrified that we took cabs for the remainder of the trip and ate fast food to make up the cost. The shopping was incredible, though. H&M had just opened what may have been their first store in America. We left NYC with suitcases brimming with styles that our town wouldn't see for 2 more years, minus a pair of really great jeans that I accidentally left in the back of one of those cabs.

I went to NY last year first time to visit my friend and also visit a girl I was seeing before she moved to the city. My plan was to split between them over 7 nights. I saw her briefly on day 2 but she ghosted me after that.

I overstayed my welcome at my friends has and had to fly home to CA after night 5.

Huge emphasis on making sure your sleeping arrangements are line up before you visit
